The backyard held both promise and challenge. Sweeping views deserved to be experienced up close, and the clients envisioned an outdoor oasis where grandchildren could splash in the pool, family meals could stretch into warm evenings, and friends could gather with the landscape as a backdrop. Every element needed to invite people in and encourage them to stay—a pool safe for little ones, expansive hardscape for long dinners, comfortable seating for conversation, and flexible spaces for effortless entertaining.

The steep slope presented the central challenge, threatening to make a level pool and generous patio nearly impossible. The dramatic grade that created the views also obstructed outdoor gatherings. Creative problem solving, precise planning, and close coordination between landscape and pool contractors were essential to achieving a seamless, cohesive design that honored the natural landscape.

The solution involved bringing in large amounts of fill dirt to build up the grade, creating the necessary elevation for the pool deck and surrounding hardscape. A rock retaining wall was constructed to hold the new grade, with stone carefully selected to blend with the surroundings, enhancing the property’s inherent beauty. Terraced spaces balanced function and aesthetics, turning the slope into intentional, graceful areas.

As construction progressed, the pool settled into its foundation, the hardscape spread generously, and spaces for family dinners, conversation, and play came to life. The slope that once seemed insurmountable now perfectly cradles gatherings, creating an outdoor living space where connection unfolds naturally and every moment is framed by the landscape they love.
