The existing kitchen had good bones but was lacking personalization—it felt too Plain Jane for a client who craved excitement. After a year spent dreaming up a new space, this kitchen marries the texture and richness of old-world influences with eclectic curves and finish details.

The designer also tackled the lack of functionality in a few places. The biggest pain point was that it didn’t reflect the client’s elevated style. Given the space’s smaller size, it made the most sense to keep the layout the same. By not changing the layout, there was a lot of pressure to elevate the space with the furnishing selections.

To make a small space embody a large-space personality, it’s all about the details. The team selected a creamy lime wash for the walls, a plaster vent hood, unlacquered brass hardware that will patina over time, fluted ogee edges on the countertops, and dark-stained, inset cabinetry. Eclectic elements from classic to fun include the fluted detail on the curved island edge, fluted cabinetry glass, bold marble countertops, statement ceiling trim, and the star of the show—a burgundy range.

The kitchen is totally transformed without knocking down a single wall, all with artful, intentional selections.
