Kitchen—up to 300 sq ft
The vision for this remodel was to create a kitchen that feels open, connected, and effortlessly functional—a space where design and daily life work in harmony. By reimagining the layout to improve flow, natural light, and access between rooms, the design prioritizes both beauty and purpose. Warm materials, thoughtful details, and a seamless connection to the outdoors reflect the client’s desire for a timeless, inviting space that supports gathering, creativity, and everyday living with ease.
The design called for a large window above the kitchen sink to strengthen the connection between indoors and out while flooding the space with natural light. Enlarging an opening on an exterior wall that already housed plumbing introduced the risk of frozen pipes. Additionally, to fully connect the kitchen to the outdoors, bar-style seating was envisioned just beyond the new accordion-style window—but the existing patio sat too low to align with the interior countertop height. These challenges required careful planning to preserve both the design vision and functional performance.
To address the plumbing risk, the team framed a double wall behind the cabinetry, creating a concealed thermal buffer with added insulation. This solution maintained the clean aesthetic while ensuring the kitchen remains functional and comfortable. For the patio alignment, an elevated concrete patio was engineered directly atop the original slab, providing proper elevation, seamless sightlines, and a unified indoor–outdoor experience. Together, these solutions transformed structural constraints into intentional design opportunities, enhancing both form and function.
