Bathroom—Primary
The homeowners wanted their new primary bathroom to feel spacious, personal, and connected to a true suite experience. Key wishlist items included a freestanding tub, the use of copper as a design feature, double medicine cabinets above a dual-sink vanity, a separate water closet, and a generous walk-in closet directly connected to the bath. Accessibility and comfort were also priorities, which informed details like a flush-entry shower. The overall goal was to expand the footprint of the suite to accommodate these features while ensuring the bathroom felt both functional and indulgent.
The existing home didn’t provide enough space within the original footprint to achieve this vision. The primary suite was undersized, and there wasn’t enough flexibility to integrate all the desired elements into its current location. Reconfiguring the layout meant significant structural changes, including how to gain additional square footage without compromising flow in the rest of the home.
To create the space needed, the design team absorbed an adjacent bedroom into the new suite layout. This provided the opportunity to not only enlarge the bathroom and closet but also to rethink the entire main suite configuration. With the staircase restructured elsewhere in the home, the bathroom itself was relocated, unlocking a more efficient floor plan that allowed for the freestanding tub, copper accents, and all of the homeowners’ priorities. Inside, interior detailing elevated the suite into a true retreat: custom handmade Spanish tile borders the room, while a mantel-like feature was designed to emulate the look of an old wall fountain, lending timeless character. The result is a primary suite that feels expansive, cohesive, and tailored.
