The homeowners relocated from abroad after a corporate merger and loved the lakefront location, but the interior felt cold, sterile, and bachelor-pad–like. The vision was to create a warm, organic home that reflected the serene lake views and natural surroundings. Inspired by water, design elements incorporated curves, concave fluting, soft corners, brass, and unique stone, blending elegance with tranquility.

The home presented significant challenges. Built into a hillside, the floor plan was cramped, with limited kitchen storage, no dining space, multiple awkward doors near the living room, and a primary bath with an exterior door to a steep drop. The second-floor loft was difficult to access, and other bedrooms needed reconfiguration to create an office and flexible guest accommodations. Essentially, the entire look and flow of the home required reimagining.

Solutions were thoughtful and precise. In the kitchen, transom windows and vents were removed to allow cabinets to reach the ceiling, and walls were opened to maximize space, lake views, and create a wave-inspired quartz island. Curved, concave fluted corners added storage while softening edges. The dining area was introduced with a custom plaster banquette and mesh chandelier, while handrails were redesigned in soft brass to reduce harsh lines. Laundry and powder rooms were reconfigured for function and privacy. Upstairs, a scalloped vanity and custom bunkroom combined playfulness with practicality.

The primary bath became a spa-like retreat with zellige tile, hand-scraped hardwoods, and the formidable marble that guided the home’s palette. In the living room, a Roman clay fireplace and concave fluted oak panels added texture, scale, and warmth, creating a home that now feels cohesive, organic, and inviting.
