What was mostly an unfinished basement became a self-contained apartment for the client’s son. The heart of the design was the kitchen, a balance of rugged masculinity and refined details—perfect for both everyday cooking and casual entertaining when Mom’s book club came downstairs.
The chef-worthy workspace features a true butcher block countertop, Dekton countertops and backsplash, walnut cabinetry with functional accessories, and premium appliances.
The biggest challenge was designing in an area with mechanical runs, uneven ceiling heights, and limited natural light. Creating a space that felt open, cohesive, and architectural required both technical problem-solving and creative vision. The design strategically maximized ceiling height wherever possible while disguising unavoidable drops to preserve a sense of spaciousness and flow.
The chic fireplace surround conceals the sump pump behind a built-in bookcase, turning a functional necessity into an architectural highlight.
