This 1910 Hyde Park gem carried the charm of its era—but also the quirks of several poorly conceived renovations. At its center was an 11’ × 11’ kitchen with angled corner cabinets that wasted space, minimal counter surface, and limited lighting.

The homeowners—avid cooks and bakers—needed a kitchen that matched their lifestyle while honoring the historic character of the home. Their goals were to make the space feel larger and brighter within the same footprint, preserve the home’s soul, and improve comfort and ergonomics—especially for one very tall client. The new kitchen needed efficient storage, thoughtful functionality, and authentic early 20th-century character.

The redesign reworked the layout, moving the refrigerator and pantry to the butler’s pantry, freeing space for a centered range and sink. During demolition, original brickwork was uncovered and incorporated into the design, shaping a textured range wall. The ceiling joists were exposed and finished to add height and warmth.

Custom inset cabinetry with a furniture-like feel maximizes storage, while drawers replace many upper cabinets, increasing functionality. Details like a tambour-front integrated fridge, Calacatta Viola marble backsplash, leather-wrapped oak pulls, and unlacquered brass fixtures add richness. New layered lighting, checkered marble floors, and vintage-inspired elements complete a kitchen that blends historic charm with modern performance.
