The homeowners sought a space that balanced modern functionality with timeless craftsmanship. The challenge was to integrate two distinct features—a walk-in pantry and a butler’s pantry—into a cohesive layout that preserved the open connection to the adjacent living area.

Working within tight spatial constraints, the team strategically borrowed five feet each from an adjacent bedroom and the garage—complicating the layout but unlocking the square footage needed. Replicating the home’s original pitched ceiling within the new footprint demanded precision framing and tight coordination across trades to ensure perfect visual continuity. Raising the header between the kitchen and living room brought in natural light and openness, but also required material transitions—like exposed cedar beams—to maintain warmth and cohesion. Structural irregularities—most notably a pronounced subfloor hump—were addressed with surgical precision.

Every design decision was made with purpose: optimizing space within a compact footprint, enhancing flow, and layering thoughtful details that elevate both utility and elegance. A restrained yet richly layered palette—combining natural textures, subtle tones, and refined finishes—feels grounded and enduring. This new highly functional gathering space quietly speaks volumes.
