As the clients enter a new chapter of life with their children leaving home, this transformation reimagines their traditional Tuscan-style residence into a refined modern-transitional space that reflects both change and continuity. Inspired by their global travels and personal evolution, the design softens old-world richness with contemporary clarity, creating interiors that feel grounded yet renewed.

The vision was to craft a home that feels sculptural and artful, where form and materiality are thoughtfully curated to evoke emotion and elevate daily living. Clean architectural lines, layered textures, and statement furnishings introduce a gallery-like sensibility, while warmth and comfort keep the spaces deeply livable. Select architectural elements—including arched openings, wrought-iron details, and natural stone—were preserved or reinterpreted as subtle references to the home’s Tuscan roots.

Functionality was equally important. As the household dynamic shifted, spaces were reimagined to better support the couple’s evolving lifestyle, with integrated storage maintaining visual clarity while supporting everyday needs.

The renovation required solving several complex design issues. The kitchen’s irregular angles and varied ceiling heights demanded custom cabinetry and carefully planned lighting to maintain flow and balance. Although the layout remained largely unchanged, achieving the new aesthetic required intensive craftsmanship. Every wall was repeatedly sanded to eliminate heavy texture, while the original knotty alder baseboards underwent extensive filling, Bondo work, and refinishing to achieve a flawless surface.

In the office, integrating storage and technology within existing dark woodwork required a delicate balance. A custom desk anchors the room, while textured wall treatments add depth without overpowering the space.

Custom cabinetry and millwork became the primary design strategy. Bespoke kitchen cabinetry accommodates irregular geometry through integrated panels and carefully placed negative space. Across the home, floor-to-ceiling storage, multifunctional built-ins, and tailored millwork maximize every inch while maintaining a calm, cohesive aesthetic.
