The goal of this project was to transform an aging backyard into a modern retreat for the next generation. The existing lagoon-style pool and dated patio required frequent maintenance and no longer reflected the homeowners’ style. Working closely with the family, the project team developed a fresh, contemporary design that expanded outdoor gathering areas, enhanced privacy, and created an inviting, all-ages environment—perfect for children, grandchildren, and entertaining alike.

The redesign came with challenges. The original pool’s curved shape, tight lot lines, and new city watershed requirements limited layout options. Demolition revealed multiple buried patios beneath the surface, adding complexity during construction. At the same time, the home’s interior was being remodeled, requiring careful coordination to ensure the exterior complemented the clean lines and refined finishes indoors.

Embracing the deck’s angles, the team introduced a striking geometric pool with dual sun ledges and a dramatic spillover spa as the focal point. Tiered seating areas create intimate conversation zones, while three outdoor TVs make the space game-day ready. Timeless materials—platinum travertine pavers, stone veneer, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances—blend seamlessly with the home’s updated aesthetic.

Fire features, soft lighting, and a custom 12-foot fireplace extend usability into cooler evenings. An infiltration trench, concealed beneath a synthetic turf putting green, satisfies watershed requirements while adding recreation space. One of the stone columns conceals a wall-mounted power washer with retractable hose for quick and easy clean up, and the lush landscaping and newly planted evergreen trees around the perimeter of the yard provide privacy for the multiple generations to enjoy year-round.
