Design Detail
This bar is an architectural gesture just outside the vaulted living room—equally sculptural and welcoming. Drawing on cues from the kitchen’s curved cabinetry, the designers layered in light, texture, and concealed functionality to give the bar its own voice. The piece of joinery anchors the living room and transitions into the kitchen, both practical in storage and expressive in form, shaping how the space is used and experienced.
The bar itself serves multiple functions: housing refrigeration, AV equipment, and ample liquor storage, without feeling heavy. Inside, a small sink is hidden for practicality, while illuminated shelves glow without a visible light source. The project team designed the thin-profile metal shelving to hide linear lighting that glows both up and down to illuminate liquor and glasses without glare. The shelves were painted the same color as the cabinetry, so they appear to float. Vertical panels serve double duty: some are stationary to cover the structure, others open to reveal storage, allowing the bar to hide away or be the star of the show. Together, the sculptural cabinetry and thoughtful detailing transform the vaulted volume into a bar that is both functional and architectural, without stealing attention from artwork and collections.
