Hawk Heights: Stair

This newly designed staircase transforms a challenging architectural space into a refined, light-filled focal point. This striking stairway enhances both function and form within the historic Kansas City condominium.

Positioned within a triangular volume framed by existing concrete beams and a towering arched window, the stair responds to the constraints of the 1927 building with a carefully considered layout. A translucent glass wall above the staircase allows diffused daylight to filter through both levels, while integrated light coves add warmth and depth. The stair’s landing, positioned at an acute angle, offers a moment of pause before leading to the second floor.

By balancing contemporary detailing with the home’s original architectural character, the project team has crafted a stairway that is both an architectural solution and a sculptural statement.
