Custom Home 3,001 to 6,000 sq. ft.
South of the city, this Miami County farmhouse balances heritage and modern comfort. Inspired by the weathered stone barns scattered across Kansas, the home embraces multiple peaked roofs, creating soaring interiors that feel both expansive and inviting. Designed for a family gathering place, the layout provides ample space for guests while keeping the focus on the landscape—particularly the pond and sweeping western sunsets.
Rather than shaping the house as a single structure, the architect introduced distinct rooflines that echo the layered nature of historic farmsteads. Natural stone and wood on the exterior strengthen the connection to the land, while exposed timber trusses anchor the great room and kitchen. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the surrounding countryside, ensuring the views remain a focal point.
A thoughtfully positioned patio between the main house and garage serves as the ultimate vantage point, capturing each evening’s golden-hour glow and reinforcing the home’s deep connection to its setting.
