Patrons help the Crestwood Shops celebrate its 100th birthday.
etween the Plaza and Brookside sits one of Kansas City’s first—and still finest—shopping districts. Designed by Edward Tanner, famed architect for the J.C. Nichols Company (which designed many of Kansas City’s most charming homes in the Country Club District), the Crestwood Shops were built to serve the newly developed upscale Crestwood neighborhood.
Adjacent to the original streetcar line, now known as the trolley tracks, the shops were also easily accessible for those living farther away. Today, the shops retain the charm of yesteryear with wide pedestrian-friendly brick sidewalks and convenient parking directly in front of the stores’ colorful entrances. Large display windows showcase each store’s carefully curated wares.
Although the Crestwood Shops’ history dates back to 1921, the independently owned shops and restaurants are still meeting the modern needs of today’s customers. Patrons delight in the wide array of fine home decor and gifts, antiques, tea and wine options, design services, apparel, accessories, restaurants and a salon. It’s perfect for locals to stop in on their way home or for visitors to make a day trip out of exploring the one-of-a-kind boutiques.
