he vision was to create a timeless, classic home that feels cozy—just like a favorite pair of jeans. A home that is brimming with character yet also functional enough to fit the needs of a family of four.
To achieve this balance, the homeowners turned to Janna Coglizer and Megan Shepherd of Midwest & Co., a highly talented interior design duo known for incorporating their clients’ individual styles and needs into each home design. Their motto, “Love Your Home,” reflects how each project is tailored to create unique, curated spaces that authentically reflect their clients.
“We spend a lot of time getting to know our clients, their families, their interests, goals, and what brings them joy,” says Janna. “We believe that the space you are in impacts your mood and perspective. Our goal is always to create spaces that inspire joy.”
To design such a space for this client’s project, Midwest & Co. featured the timeless elegance of traditional architectural details like crown molding, coffered ceilings and intricate millwork while carefully blending in modern elements to form a tasteful balance between past and present. Antique or vintage pieces were strategically placed alongside modern furniture to create an eclectic charm throughout the home.
Our goal is always to create spaces that inspire joy.

The home strikes an impressive balance between elegance and functionality, evolving into a space that is both palliative and full of personality. It’s a beautiful and vibrant space that also lends itself to the day-to-day life of a busy family.
The Midwest & Co. duo settled on a neutral color palette to inspire a sense of calm and sophistication, with exciting splashes of color from room to room to keep things light-hearted and fun. They integrated natural wood, stone and brass materials to enhance the depth, warmth and textures, making the space feel extra cozy.
Projects of this scope, however, always tend to have a few bumps along the way. Janna and Megan guided the clients through the process, helping them easily navigate every obstacle to achieve their home’s ideal look and feel. They also skillfully sourced a matching sister piece to the kitchen countertops and assisted the clients through several iterations of cabinet layouts to establish proper function and balance in the kitchen and prep areas.
“Working with clients and building a relationship is always our favorite part and what we strive for in a project,” Jana says. “This client was so much fun to work with and allowed us to run wild in capturing their family dynamic in different spaces throughout the house. This was a dream project for us!”
