Project Vision:

The goal of this project was to create a more functional, family-friendly first floor centered around a reimagined kitchen. Our clients wanted a home that supported both daily life with young children and effortless entertaining, so our vision was to blend practicality, warmth, and personality throughout every space. In addition to the remodel, we furnished the first floor using a mix of existing and new pieces.

We began by completely transforming the kitchen layout—moving walls to open the Kitchen to the Family Room and make space for a free-standing island. This new configuration not only improved flow but also maximized storage and allowed us to incorporate a small walk-in pantry and a dedicated breakfast space.

By shifting the original Kitchen wall back approximately two feet, we carved out room for a built-in bar in the existing dining area. This became a beautiful and functional feature, offering a dedicated space for serving and hosting—keeping adult beverages separate from the main kitchen used by the kids.

A favorite detail is the navy hutch in the breakfast area. Originally a buffet from Scout Design Studio—one of the couple’s first investments together after getting married—we custom-designed a top to match the base, giving new life and purpose to a sentimental piece. This approach reflects our broader goal: to honor our clients’ story while elevating functionality and design harmony across their home.

Project Challenges:

The redesign required relocating not only interior walls, but also major systems—including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC—along with reconfiguring exterior doors and windows. Each of these adjustments were essential to achieving the open, functional layout envisioned, but they demanded careful coordination between trades and meticulous spatial planning.

Because the kitchen footprint was completely flipped, we had to work within existing structural constraints to ensure adequate support for new openings and to maintain proper flow between the kitchen, family, and dining spaces. Every decision—down to outlet placement, appliance clearances, and window alignment—was made with intention, balancing technical feasibility with the overall aesthetic vision.

Project Solutions:

Through thoughtful reconfiguration, we established clear sightlines, better flow, and natural gathering zones that support family life and entertaining alike. The new kitchen became the heart of the home, anchored by an island and surrounded by tailored storage solutions that maximize efficiency without sacrificing aesthetics.

Revised window and door placements introduced abundant daylight and strengthened the home’s connection to the outdoors. The reimagined dining area, featuring a custom built-in bar, now provides a seamless transition between cooking, dining, and hosting—enhancing the home’s livability and visual harmony.
