MOJO Built: Building Modern Homes in Harmony with Historic Neighborhoods

Many people love the mature trees and charming characteristics of older homes in the close-in neighborhoods of Prairie Village, Old Leawood, Fairway, Mission Hills and Brookside. But houses designed in the 1940s and 50s don’t always suit the way families live in their homes today. That’s where MOJO Built comes in. MOJO builds new construction modern homes to blend seamlessly into these historic neighborhoods.

MOJO Built is a partnership between experienced real estate professionals Joe Woods and John Moffitt, Jr. Joe’s background includes helping hundreds of families buy and sell homes as a Realtor, in addition to restoring and building homes in the I-435 loop. John is a second-generation builder, growing up in the housing business with his father, who was one of the original developers/partners of Leawood. He has developed subdivisions and built numerous homes throughout the metro. This experienced duo has the vision and skill to blend today’s floorplans and technology needs with the charm and character of some of Kansas City’s most admired and in-demand neighborhoods.

“MOJO understands the need to retain the character of the historic areas, yet incorporate the latest technologies to create a beautiful home where family is at the heart. We strive to put both function and form together to create a home that satisfies both the owners’ daily needs and their aesthetic vision,” notes Heather Moffitt, MOJO’s Marketing Director. “MOJO Built is about quality construction in every aspect of our process. We aim to maintain the integrity of the neighborhoods we build in, while simultaneously enhancing these neighborhoods with the quality of our work.”

MOJO’s style varies from traditional to farmhouse to modern, whatever speaks to the customer and suits their lifestyle. Joe works hand in hand with the customer to select finishes, ensuring that quality standards and customer satisfaction are met within the construction schedule.

“The attention to detail and the level of finishes are unlike any builder I’ve seen,” adds Heather. “We will be featuring one of our French Farmhouse homes on the Spring Parade of Homes this year. Like most of our homes, it will have an open plan, five bedrooms, four and one-half baths, a first floor office, and a rare three car garage. It’s one of three homes in a row that are all under construction.”

“Another project that people may have noticed is a historic home at 67th and Glenwood. “It’s been fascinating to watch the renovation,” says Heather. “This home has been a distinctive piece of the landscape for nearly a century and we are so very honored to work with the homeowner on its restoration. Uncovering little pieces of history throughout the restoration process has been a such a unique learning experience!”

In addition to building on tear-down lots, MOJO also builds in new home communities and on acreage. Their plans have won numerous Parade of Homes awards for Distinctive Plan and Design. MOJO Built was also included among the area’s finest homebuilders on the 2020 and 2022 KCHBA Artisan Home Tours, a benefit for the KC Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
