Project vision or goals

When our client purchased this 90s new construction she knew it had great bones, an amazing lot and view of the golf course plus room for her large family. The home was unfortunately also decked out in textured + faux finished walls, dated french country details and an angled kitchen island with a small footprint. She knew she wanted to transform this home into a retreat–an elevated, welcoming California coastal vibe with entertaining and family time at the center of it all.

Project challenges
The layout of the kitchen limited our ability to include our dream hit list–giant island for 6-8 people, focal french range, multiple places to cook, a view of the scenery, ample storage and proximity to family spaces. Our client loves to cook for her family but didn't want to miss out on the fun–she hated the idea of constantly standing with her back to her family and friends cooking over the range.
Project solutions
When contemplating various kitchen layout concepts we decided to throw a "wild" idea at our client–a central range situated in the island with custom floating hood facing the family room. Fearless and fun, she loved the idea and we went full steam ahead. We transformed the rarely used breakfast room into a side kitchen with bright new windows and a custom floating set of shelves for everyday dishes. We designed a custom island with walnut top, powder coated legs and marble shelf to serve as a prep surface. We created a new focal wall between two Subzero fridge/freezers opposite the range with a huge new window and brass sink. Our client selected the most stunning taupe french range and we set it in the center of the creamy white marble island and designed a custom hood to accompany the star. We refinished all the floors throughout to a soft, light oak color–creating that informal and welcoming energy our client was after. The island comfortably seats 8 and is the ultimate serving piece with custom cutting boards that slide into each side of the island. We opened up the adjacent family room with symmetrical doors to the living room and designed a new low profile fireplace surround with hand made tiles. The entire space is furnished in warm, tactile fabrics including 2 large custom ottomans under a burl wood console made from antique Moroccan textiles. It truly suits this kind, welcoming and lovely family. We adore them and this transformation we were honored to assist with. Cheers!
