Project vision or goals

Our goal with this project was to express our clients’ personality by creating a Westwood home design that is sophisticated and sexy while being durable and family-friendly.

Project challenges
When our project started, our clients were in the early stage of building a new home. They had one young child, with plans for another. While Brandon likes sleek, modern design, Julie loves warm textures and neutrals. We needed to combine both of their preferences and express their personality as a couple. We also need to create an environment suitable for raising young kids, while also catering to hosting guests. Finally, with Brandon having his own business, and Julie her career, the home needs to function efficiently to help them make the most of their time at home with their kids.
Project solutions
By selecting comfortable performance textiles and super durable surfaces like Dekton, we created a timeless design with a moody, casual, modern vibe. We integrated transitional touches to add character and warmth and suit the style of the neighborhood. Calming neutrals are balanced with the use of high contrast between rooms to add mood, drama, depth, and dimension, keeping the overall look from feeling one note. Organic elements and textures complement simple and stark surfaces, allowing both to feel equally special. Whenever possible, we designed cabinetry and custom furniture pieces to float, adding a sense of spaciousness and modernity against other transitional elements.

We added modern — and sometimes unconventional — conveniences to help the home function efficiently. A full coffee bar and water bottle filler in the primary bathroom and laundry areas allow Brandon and Julie to spend more time in the moment when they're upstairs with their kids at the start and close of each day, rather than running up and down stairs. A home theatre with a sweets bar, kid's play room, home office, and home gym all create an environment that makes it easy for the family to work, play, and stay healthy.
